John
and Jane Normals were one of the first to move into the tiny town of
Normalville. They were almost disgustingly average: met in highschool,
married after graduation, bought a small home with a white fence. John
started to work doing door-to-door polls, and Jane stayed at home -
she spent her days perfecting her household skills, in preparation for
the family they were starting.
Jane got pregnant nearly immediately. The pregnancy went well, and their
firstborn was a little boy they named John II.

And not long later, little Joseph was born. John couldn't help but beam
with pride whenever he talked about his 2 marvelous boys.

Although they had planned to stop after 2 children, John and Jane discovered
that nursing an infant didn't really always protect you from becoming
pregnant again. Ok, they didn't *really* mind - they were both family-oriented,
after all.

To Jane's delight, this baby turned out to be a little girl, Janet.

The boys both grew up well, although it was clear that John II was the
more studious of them.

Janet took after her mother, and was a pretty shy and timid child.
John II easily made it into Private School, and quickly got a job -
he had dreams of becoming a doctor, so he spent his afternoon at work
in the local hospital, helping out. Joseph ... was less mentally agile,
and ok, not really all that athletic either. John, who was rising quickly
in his political career, pulled some strings and arranged for him to
join the streetcrossing guard.

Janet was also doing well, and strongly favoring her mother, not just
in looks, but also in values. She loved staying at home to cook and
clean, and was really looking forward to one day starting her own happy
family.

All was well with the Normals - or was it?
John II had been harboring a dark secret from quite some time: he was
gay. And not only was he gay, he was very very attracted to a *black*
boy. And while he had tried and tried to break things off, Ricky just
kept coming around to his house at night, and John II couldn't resist.
Of course, it couldn't end well - discovery was only a matter of time.

After that, things in the Normals home changed. No one was looking John
II in the eye, and John began to focus all his attention on Joseph,
who worked hard to be worthy of being is parent's biggest pride. It
wasn't something he'd wanted - he'd always known John II was much more
clever and talented than him, and he's never wanted it to be different.
But now that he was considered the main Normals heir, he did his best.

Thankfully for John II, adulthood came quickly, and he regretfully left
his parents home, knowing that he'd probably never be invited back -
it wasn't that they didn't love him, but John was not willing to accept
that his firstborn son refused to marry and raise his own family.
