All Mulder/Krycek. We accept
no substitutes.
Obligatory Content Warning
These stories are slash, meaning they involve homosexual relationships, and some of them are quite graphic. If you are too young to be allowed to read this or if you are likely to be offended by the subject matter, take yourself hence.
· A.
Leigh-Anne Childe
- In A Dark Time
What XF slash should be. A re-writing
of the XF eps Sleepless and the very beginning of Ascension that hits the
characters so squarely you'll wonder (again) how Surferdude can be so oblivious.
Lovely prose, a wildly eccentric and incredibly Mulderish Mulder, a complex
and multi-faceted Krycek, complicated relationships, hot sex, everything you
ever wanted to know about the mating habits of hamsters... And it's *long*.
Perfection.
- A
Little Lost Fox
A SF AU. Lone
Captain Skinner and his sexy sidekick, Feral!Krycek, stumble across the sole
surviving crew member of a starship somewhere in the armpit of the galaxy,
where good and law-abiding boys with more sense than one Fox Mulder rightly
fear to tread. A more wretched hive of scum and villainy – well, not that
particular wretched hive, but you get the picture.
· torch
- Ghosts
An absolute must-read. Torch has a
staggering amount of insight into the characters and spins an utterly captivating
tale. It's beautiful. Just read it. The sequel "Lovers" is also very good,
though I prefer "Ghosts".
- Hard
as Hell
An amazing short story in which young
and ambitious Agent Krycek is rudely awakened to just what his job entails
– and then goes on to find out things are even worse than that. That's what
you get for failing to read the small print.
- Something
Wicked
An XF/HL crossover. A one-armed assassin
on the brink of burn-out and a really old guy with a pretty big knife attempt
to use each other to forget for the space of a night.
· Ladonna
King
Just about every
XF story by Ladonna is stunningly brilliant, but these are my favorites.
- The Mad Dogs
Series
An explanation
of Krycek's strange obsession with Mulder and why he always comes back for
more.
- The Skin
Series
A strange and
lovely AU. At the onset of a frightening change, Alex goes to Mulder for help.
- Blood,
Love and Rhethoric
A compelling
tale of a disfunctional relationship, complete with an intriguing motto: "Well,
we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood
and rhetoric without the love, or we can do you all three, concurrent or consecutive,
but we can't do you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory,
they're all blood, you see."
- Responsibility
Alex is given
one last job by his English employer: the disposal of a very battered piece
of merchandise.
- Wanderlust
A glimpse of
Krycek's past and the forces that shaped him. Sometimes you can search...but
you can't ever go home.
- Promise
Dark and intense.
With the War in full-swing, Mulder and Krycek meet again at last...but nothing
is what it seems.
- Possession
An Oilien Nation
story. Krycek got what he wanted, but the price was too high. Can he get what
he needs?
· Jane
Mortimer – The Same
Everywhere and The
Hand We Were Dealt
Mulder makes a deal with an alien.
So does Krycek.
· Kassandra
- The Long and Winding Road (Part
1, Part 2,
Missing Scene)
Mad scientists. Abductions. Unspeakable
experiments. Clones. And, I dare hardly utter the dread words, male pregnancy,
thankfully presented as the dark and horrifying thing it is. <g> Don't
turn away in horror before you've given it a try. Trust me, Kassandra makes
it work. Really.
- Shock
the Monkey
The best "redeeming Krycek" story
I've read so far.
· Imajiru
– Departure 1, 2 and 3
Mulder wakes up to find himself at
Krycek's mercy, but the tables soon turn. Starts out with a borderline rape
scenario, navigates between the abundant waiting pitfalls with complete confidence
and more success than I would have thought possible, and goes on to get better
and better.
· Sugar
Rush – Fantasy
Man
Of all things, a crossover with Fantasy
Island – and it's wonderful. Krycek is ferried off to lie low on an island
paradise, where he discovers that the subconscious is a thing not to be underestimated,
and that no matter how good it feels, a mirage is only a beautiful and fleeting
illusion. Or is it?
· Courtney
Grey – The Curveball Series
Mulder is at the bat. Fate throws
a curveball. Confusion ensues.
· Dawn
M. Pares – The Palimpsest Series
Mulder wakes
up in a trunk with a large chunk of time missing from his memory, a naked
assassin in his arms and the scent of cloves in the air. Subtle, strange and
intriguing. The last story of the series isn't – and will likely never be
– finished, which is an incredible shame, but read it anyway.
· Brenda
Antrim – Bury the Dead Alive
How Krycek got out of the silo. My
favorite story from this particular sub-genre.
· Keiko
Kirin – Road
Trip and Strange
Bliss
Krycek takes Mulder on an unscheduled
road trip. Needless to say, all does not go as planned.
· Anne
Zo – The One Night/Temptation Series
(scroll down
past those pesky M/Sk stories to get there)
The only bondage
and dominance/submission slash I've ever truly enjoyed. Superbly written and
utterly plausible. Anne delves into Alex's emotions, needs and reactions so
deeply that the reader truly understands the appeal this kind of sexual domination
holds for him.
· Jennifer-Oksana
– The Choirgirl
Set
A series of
vignettes. Twisted just right, dark and meltingly bittersweet. Mulder can
be counted on to fall like a rock for anyone who's truly bad for him, and
in this universe, that includes Scully... and Krycek, of course. (This is
an alternate Scully I infinitely prefer to the one CC has been showing us
lately.)
· Palinurus
– The Game
and Out of the
Blue
The games people
play. I don't think these stories were intended to be connected, but they
go together well.
· KMS
– Servicing
All the Mulders
Short and haunting.
Perfect.
· Kat
Allison – Motel, 3 A.M.
and Coming to This
Very short, no real plot, no real
sex, every word right on target. I wish I could write like this woman.
· Rosalita
– The Coldness of the Sun
Krycek is hiding
out in St. Petersburg when the last person he expects to see finds him. Subtle
and eery.
· Viridian
5
– The Weaknesses Series
Krycek discovers that Mulder's been
keeping a very deep secret for a long time. Not always completely convincing,
but a neat idea and some beautiful writing.
– The Addictions-Turnabout Stories
"Addictions" and "Turnabout" present
the same basic concept in two different flavors, both very enjoyable. To summarize
the plot very briefly and inadequately: in the first story, Krycek abducts
Mulder, and in the second, it's the other way around. In both cases, Mulder
flashes back to a deeply-buried episode in his past. In "Turnabout II", Mulder
goes through dramatic personality changes as a direct result – this one is
my favorite of the bunch. The "Turnabout: Detour" stories explore yet another
alternate scenario, darker still, in which Mulder is never freed from serial
killer Bobby McCain and Alex outsmarts himself.
· Czara
– Genesis (Part 1,
Part 2)
An intriguing and very well-written
WIP in which one of the Consortium's projects literally takes on a life of
its own and breaks out of the laboratory to find Mulder.
· Zen&nancy
– The Heroin
Series
Krycek goes
on a semi-controlled heroin binge and is hunted down by Mulder at the worst
possible moment.
· The
Spike – Theophile
Obsession.
· Silk
– Claustrophobia
The first X-Files
story I ever read. Short, smooth, bittersweet and angsty, the perfect appetizer
to tempt a fan's – or potential fan's – palate.
· cathy
lee – Rest
Stop
Mulder misinterprets
his new partner's behavior.
· C
King – Victim of the Game
Aliens take to Krycek like demons
to brimstone.
· Sebastian
– Another Me
Krycek wrestles
with more versions of Mulder than either he or Mulder himself can handle.
On The Sweet Side (By My Twisted Standards)...
· MJ
and JiM – I Still
Have Plans To Go To Mexico and the sequel Three
Men in a Boat by JiM
Skinner and
Mulder, living together and retired from the FBI, take in a burned-out Krycek
all but irretrievably damaged in body and spirit. Too idyllic to be believable
for cynical me, but a great read all the same.
· MJ
– Wandering
Arameans
Mulder hides
out with his Jewish Orthodox relatives in Brooklyn and evades the obligatory
matchmaking attempts, all the while trying not to let on that his lover is
a wanted criminal, Russian Orthodox at best, and male. Mulder desperately
needs to take a course in rhetorics, but it's a very enjoyable story in spite
of his lack of eloquence. <g>
· Skinner
Box – Safe
Sex
Why both Krycek
and Mulder feel safe when they have sex, and why both of them are wrong.
·
Maria M. – And
Anywhere I Lay My Head
It's after Gethsemane. Mulder is believed
dead by his enemies, including Alex Krycek.
· Catherine
– Reach
a Little Bit Higher
Part-Time-Lover!Krycek
drops by apartment 42 only to find that the situation has changed drastically.
The story breaks off very suddenly and will probably never be finished, but
I think it's worth reading anyway.
· Jane
Symons – A
Kiss Is Just A Kiss
Mulder gives
the cynical Krycek a lesson in the old fashioned art of romance.
Fun and Games
· Wombat
Wombat provides us with the essential
slasher's manuals The
Spotter's Guide to the Common Krycek and
The
Spotter's Guide to the Common Mulder. You might also want to read the
manifesto of The
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Mulders, just in case
you come across an abandoned Mulder one day and think about giving him a home.
· Megaera
- The Clone Series
A cautionary tale for those of us
who've played with the thought of ordering a Mulder or Krycek in the mail.
- Krycek and Mulder (Deceased)
Mulder's dead, but he doesn't intend
to let a little setback like that stop him.
·
DB Kate – Goober
and the Czar
Ambitious young Agent Krycek is headed
for great things – he just hasn't managed to inform the world of that fact
yet. Features earnest young Agent Pendrell, terrorist clowns, penis-shaped
swimming pools and many other attractions. (So I lied... This one isn't M/K.
Read it in spite of this glaring flaw.)
· B2
– How
It All Began
Just what the
title suggests, though perhaps a bit more bizarre than you've been imagining
it. Then again, maybe not. <g> A bonus of gratuitious nudity.
· Viridian
5 – Affirmations
A tale built around affirmations like
"as I let go of my feelings of guilt, I am in touch with my inner sociopath"
and "as I learn the innermost secrets of people around me, they reward me
in many ways to keep me quiet" – not to mention the immortal "in some cultures
what I do would be considered normal". Krycek is bored and annoyed with his
job and decides to amuse himself by paying Mulder a visit.
Desperately Seeking...
I would have loved to recommend this story, but I can't find it on the net anymore. If anyone knows where it is, please let me know!
·
Iain-Padraic Jackson – Bedtime Story 3: Drive
What happened with all the the missing
time in "Tunguska".
